Converting the sides before multiplying is easier than converting the area afterwards, because it avoids squaring the factor. If you do compute the area in square inches first, remember that 1 ft² is 144 in², not 12.
Common slips
(1) Divided the area by 12. Squaring the length squares the factor: 2,880 in² ÷ 144 = 20 ft², not 240. (2) Rounded the bottles down or to the nearest. 3.33 bottles will not cover the table; buy 4. (3) Priced the fraction. The cost is 4 bottles × the price, not 3.33 × the price.
