Site guide
Using this site.
The whole site in one walk-through: your format, your week, and where to watch, practise and prove it.
Pick your format.
MAT-144 runs online and in person, and the two are graded differently. The switch at the top of every page sets which one you see. Flip it once and the site remembers.
- Online shows your discussion questions and the six-question topic reviews.
- In person shows your unit exams and an exam review for each.
- Everything else, the lessons, videos and examples, is the same for both.
Your week, in order.
Every topic has the same menu across the top, so you always know where you are. Work left to right. The lit pill is the page you're on.
- OverviewThe week at a glance: lessons, videos, what's due.
- Mini lessonsStep through a worked example, try your own, then a quick check.
- DQs and MAYour discussion posts and, in some topics, the major assignment.
- ReviewSix questions shaped like the ALEKS topic review.
- Mastery CheckFour questions to show the topic clicked.
- OverviewThe week at a glance: lessons, videos, what's due.
- Mini lessonsStep through a worked example, try your own, then a quick check.
- Major assignmentIn the topics that have one.
- Exam reviewAt the end of each unit, every exam question with practice.
Inside a lesson.
Each mini lesson runs in three beats, so you never face a wall of text.
- Worked example: one step at a time, with matching parts of the problem and the formula lit in the same colour.
- Your turn: similar problems, one at a time, with hints.
- Quick check: a few questions with instant feedback. Finish it and the lesson counts as done.
Watch, then try it.
Every lesson has a short ORBITAL video. The video library groups them into playlists by topic and by exam.
- Videos play right on the page and pick up where you left off.
- The bar under each one shows how far you got. A full bar means watched.
- When a video ends, Now try it takes you straight to matching practice.
Practise until it’s ready.
Two places to practise beyond the lessons.
- Worked Example Library: every example in the course on one page, by topic or by formula. Turn on Try it first to hide the steps and reveal them one at a time.
- Review questions: each one has a video, how to recognise it, the rule, common slips and guided practice. Finish the practice and the question gets a tick.
Your exam reviews.
In-person sections sit three unit exams and a final. Each exam has its own review page, in the same order as the ALEKS exam review, so question 4 here is question 4 there.
- What's on it, and what isn't.
- Every question with its walkthrough video and practice.
- A Continue button and a readiness bar that track what you've practised.
Mastery Check, to prove it.
Four questions at the end of each topic, one at a time. Get all four right and you get a certificate with your name on it.
- Three attempts, a minute apart.
- The certificate shows the skills you mastered, never the answers.
- Use the name your instructor sees in Halo.
For online sections, and up to your instructor. Some instructors accept a Mastery Check certificate as a substantive participation post in that topic's discussion thread; not all do. Check with yours before you count on it.

Where everything else lives.
The Getting Started section you're in right now holds everything that isn't a specific topic, how ALEKS works, how to set up Excel, how to submit a DQ, and the site guide. The FAQ page (linked in the top nav) answers the questions students ask most often.
